*** DIAL 2-1-1 IN A BEHAVIORAL EMERGENCY ***

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Welcome to the Virtual Community of the ECC!

Welcome to the virtual community of the ECC.  Emotional and behavioral problems among K-12 students represent barriers to school success and to healthy development.

Did you know that 1 in 14 Connecticut high school students attempted suicide last year?  Did you know that public schools are the biggest providers of mental health services to children in the U.S.?  The mission of the ECC is to help K-12 students access these services.

In the early stages of our virtual community, we plan to provide up-to-date information about existing services to address the prevention of emotional-behavioral problems as well as the treatment of acute and pre-existing conditions.

Mental health is an important issue for everyone.  It can be impaired by academic failure, learning disabilities, family issues, physical or sexual abuse, drugs or alcohol, bullying, and long-standing medical problems, among others.

Stay tuned for updates.  In the meantime, please review the links on the right for a range of services that may be of immediate use to you, your children, or your students.

Sincerely,

Eric Arzubi, MD
Co-Creator, ECC
